Obituary of Kevin Michael Coughlin
Kevin Michael Coughlin passed away on February 5, 2024.
Born on April 5, 1964, in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, he was the son of Joseph and Margareth (Constant) Coughlin.
Kevin graduated from the Carlson School of Management in 1991, but it did not take long for him to become disenchanted with the world of business and to go back to his first love - writing. He stayed devoted to his stories, poems, screen plays, children’s books and plays on a daily basis. He also started his other journey of Yoga and Eastern philosophy, and learning with Faye Berton, whose teachings brought him understanding and great comfort throughout his life especially during his cancer journey. He worked for over 20 years doing Shiatsu, where his strong touch, intuitive nature and deep caring allowed him to help many people. He wanted everyone to feel better and find peace.
Kevin was an intelligent, creative, and talented person. He was passionate about everything he did whether it was writing, cooking, watercolor painting, magic, wine, beer, cigars, music, and going for walks outside. And he loved Books, he loved reading them, learning about new ones, remembering old ones, and sharing them with people. He equally loved hanging out with family and friends, especially if there was a Summit Pilsner involved.
He was proceeded in death by his mother, Margareth “Margo” Constant, brother Joseph “Joey” Coughlin, and beloved cat, Mushy.
He is survived by partner of 30 years, Janna Dethmers, father Joseph (Joyce) Coughlin, sister-in-law, Terri Coughlin, sister, Kim (Grant) Dowdy, brother, Gary (Jennifer) Coughlin and nephew, Patrick as well as many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life and 60th birthday party taco bar will be held on April 5 from 4-9 at La Cucaracha Restaurant in St. Paul, MN.
The family is requesting any memorials be made in memory of Kevin to the Hematology, Oncology and Transplant Research and Education fund (#13007) at the University of Minnesota. These will go directly to helping his amazing oncologist, Dr. Aimee Merino, who fought passionately for his life, continue her work to find a cure for Multiple myeloma.
