Obituary of Harold Arnold Moe

Harold Arnold Moe passed away February 7, 2024, at Presbyterian Homes Johanna Shores, Arden Hills, MN, at the age of 97.   

        He was born in Milan, MN, on August 16, 1926, the oldest child of Hjalmer Henry Moe and Dagny (Opjorden) Moe.  

        He graduated from Milan High School with honors in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Army the same year.  He served his country as Infantry SSgt in Germany.  He received the EAME Campaign medal, European Theater of Operations ribbon, Good Conduct medal, WWII Victory medal, and Army of Occupation medal.  At the end of the war, he continued to work as a civilian with the QuarterMaster Corp Division of Grave Registration.  He was discharged in 1946.

          While in Germany, he met the love of his life, Margrit (Korder).  They were married December 28, 1947, in Milan, MN, and shared 67 years.  To this union a son Gregory was born. 

          Harold attended St. Olaf College and later transferred to the University of Minnesota where he received a BS in Pharmacy in 1951.

          In 1954, Harold and his friend, Jim Miller, became co-owners and co-partners of Crocus Hill Pharmacy in St. Paul.  When it was destroyed by fire in 1975 they opened

Grandendale Pharmacy.  After renovations at Crocus Hill they operated both pharmacies.  Harold retired in 1993. 

          For many years Harold and Margrit were members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Johanna in St. Paul, and were active in Bible Study and various committees.  They loved international traveling, cruising, and visiting their son and grandchildren in NH.

        In 2014, he became a resident of Johanna Shores.  He was active with the Sawdust Gang, Hospitality Committee, and many other activities.

        Harold is predeceased by his wife Margrit who died in 2014, his son Gregory who died in 2022, his brother Olaus, sister-in-law Elizabeth, and niece Kirsten. 

        He is survived by his daughter-in-law Jill of NH ; grandson Erol (Jennifer) of NH; grandson Eden (Julia) of England; granddaughter Tamara (Matthew) Croteau of NH;  6 great-grandchildren; brother Thomas (Saundra) Moe, Milan, MN; 3 nephews Steven Moe of Minneapolis, MN; Bradley (Cynthia) Moe of Plymouth, MN; Brian (Jessica) Moe of Savage, MN; 2 nieces Beth (Matt) Dobson of Alaska, and Kjersten (Miron) Fisk of SD; as well as several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, and cousins.

          A memorial service will be held at Johanna Shores, 3200 Lake Johanna Boulevard, Arden Hills, MN, Friday, April 5, at 1:30 PM in Fellowship Hall.

        In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Employee Education Assistance, 2845 Hamline Avenue N., N. Roseville, MN 55113, or charity of one's choice.    

          Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park, MN, and Goundrey Funeral Home, Salem, NH.
