Obituary of Fred Harold Freese

Freese, Fred H., age 93, of Bloomington, passed away on Feb. 2, 2024.

Survived by wife of 72 years, June; children Connie (Brett Modrell), Susan, Karyl Rice (Byron), and Robert; grandchildren Erik Rice (Mary), Maura Rice, Lynne Freese (Nate Emge), and Michael Freese; and greatgrandchildren Jude and Aria Rice and Theo and Elaine Emge.

Preceded in death by parents and two siblings; also survived by brother Harvey (Pat).

Fred began his career teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Albee, SD, and then taught for several years in Watertown, SD. He later became an elementary school principal in Bloomington and continued in that position until retiring in 1990. Fred earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, and master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota. He enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling with family and friends. He was proud to say he had driven in every state except Alaska!

Funeral service Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., Church of St. Edward, 9401 Nesbitt Ave S, Bloomington. Visitation 1 hour prior; reception following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.
