Obituary of Richard Gene Miller

Richard "Dick" Gene Miller, age 84, of Burnsville, MN, passed away peacefully on January 16th, 2024, with his family by his side.

Dick was born December 16, 1939, in Casper, Wyoming, to Bob and Dorothy Miller. He attended high school in Cedar Falls, IA. At 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served 4 years. He worked as a plumber, a machinist, and then became the head of maintenance at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, IA, where he met his future bride, "Barbie".

Dick and Barb were married September 15, 1973. In 1985, they moved to Northfield, MN, where they lived for the next 28 years. Many precious memories were made with family, friends, and church family from the Northfield Alliance Church. At 75, Dick retired from his job as a machinist at Jonaco Machine in Chaska, MN, and not long after, they sold their home by Union Lake and moved to a condo in Burnsville, MN. He enjoyed family, friends, fishing, trap shooting, family vacations, and playing cribbage.

One of Dick's joys was going to breakfast. While living in Northfield, it was at the Tavern, in the Historic Archer House. He was a regular at the bar where he would order the same breakfast and sit and joke with the staff and strike up conversations with those around him. He always had time to listen to whoever was sitting next to him that particular morning- often secretly paying the tab for his neighbor (which we would only hear of through Barb, as he would never mention it himself). He was never short on sarcasm or jokes and always brought a laugh. Upon hearing of their move to Burnsville, his 'Tavern friends' bid him a sad farewell, and in no time at all Dick had found a new hangout - Jensen's Cafe. As his health started to decline, it seemed that breakfast was the only meal he really liked, or could even eat, so this daily outing was the highlight of his day. To Dick, this was his opportunity to care for people and to share the love of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He had small cards made up with John 3:16 printed on them and would hand one to his breakfast neighbor as he gently shared how much God loves them, too.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barb; a daughter, Roxane (Adam) Dachman of Madison, WI; sons, Chris (Jessica) Miller of Northfield, MN; Ben (Leah) Miller of Henderson, NV; Grandchildren, Abby (Nik) Ewalt, Zach Dachman, Noah (Lily) Miller, Sam Miller, Ava Miller and Bryce Miller; Great-Grandson, Julian Ewalt.
