Raymond Hornnes

Obituary of Raymond Herman Hornnes

Raymond H. Hornnes peacefully passed away February 5, 2024 at 89 years of age.

Ray, also known as Santa Ray was born January 23, 1935 and grew up in Richfield, MN with his two older brothers and his twin brother “Rog”.

After high school, Ray enlisted in the US Air Force and served for three years.  After leaving the service in 1957 Ray worked as a house painter and various other jobs.  Life was a struggle for Ray during these years until 1968 when he discovered AA which turned his life around.  Ray started writing at this time, too.  Over the years he wrote hundreds of pages about his growing up years, struggles with alcohol and finding his Faith.  He also discovered his true calling of being Santa Claus.  Ray spent over 20  years donning the red suit during the Christmas season which resulted in many happy children.

In addition to his earlier stories, Ray started writing about his Santa experiences as well.  His dream was to publish a book of his stories for all to read.  His dream came true a few years ago when his book “Twisted Ears and Painful Years" was published.

Ray was extremely proud of his 55 years of sobriety and his book.

Ray was proceeded in death by his parents, Olaf and Edna Hornnes and three brothers, Don, Bernie and Roger.  He is survived by his niece Julie, nephews Rick and Mike and other family members and friends.

There will be a celebration of life service on February 18th at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave So, Edina.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 with the service at 1:30.  A reception and light lunch will follow.
