Geraldine Sattinger

Obituary of Geraldine A. Sattinger

Geraldine “Jerry” A. Sattinger, age 80, passed away suddenly and peacefully on February 1st at her home in Minneapolis, MN.

Jerry was born and raised in the Mt Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. While working on her BS degree in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, she met Stan Sattinger, and they were married in 1969. Jerry and Stan welcomed their daughter Julia in 1975 and their daughter Allison in 1977. Jerry was a wonderful mother and served as PTA President at Washington Elementary School in Mt. Lebanon. Jerry earned her MSW in community organizing, also at Pitt, after her daughters were finished with elementary school in 1991. She worked as a volunteer coordinator at Southwest Services and Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, and later as a bereavement coordinator at HospiceCare of Pittsburgh and Odyssey Healthcare, helping many people through grief and loss.

Jerry and Stan moved to Minnesota in 2010 to be close to their elder daughter and became grandparents in 2012 with the birth of their younger daughter’s son, Orion.

Jerry will be remembered for her zeal, her sense of humor and infectious laugh, her love of cats, dogs, all things nature, books, travel, motorcycles, long discussions, dancing, blues music, gardening, and her love of family, friends, and even strangers. She will be remembered and celebrated by her husband Stan, daughters Julie Rose (Brian) and Allison (Anthony Schmill), grandson Orion, and a lot of folks she mothered and encouraged along the way. As she would say to all of us, “Blessings for the journey!”.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held at The Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4343 Nicollet Avenue South in Minneapolis on Monday, February 19th at 4 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held also in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at a later date TBA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s name will be welcomed with gratitude at Sunnyhill UU Church in Mt Lebanon PA (https://www.sunnyhill.org) and Animal Friends of Pittsburgh. (https://www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org).
