Obituary of Dorothy Marie Thoreson

Dorothy Marie Thoreson, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024 at Aftenro Assisted Living. She was born December 18, 1926 in Duluth, MN to Carl Olson and Bertha (Giese). She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1945. She worked at Minnesota Power/Allete, where she met her future husband. Dorothy married Richard Thoreson on May 14, 1977.

She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church for many years, before becoming a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She had a love for her church and was strong in her faith, she always looked forward to the pastoral visits. Some of her favorite times were fishing trips to Canada with friends. She also enjoyed summers at their lake home in Spooner and spending time with friends and neighbors there.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Bernice (Stanley) Jedlicka and Margaret (Russell) Gauthier; sister-in-law, Dorothy Vold.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Howard Thoreson, (friend, Norma); nieces and nephews, Janet Gulbranson, Barbara Oja, Debra (Jorma) Rahkola, Arvid (Bev) Jedlicka, Marie Schlatter, Kenneth (Meg) Thoreson, Karen (Mark) Frey, Kristeen Thoreson, Katherine (Fred) Klokomos; great-nieces and nephews, Lisa (Kevin) Webb, Nicole (Jason) Rahn, Angie Oja, Jeremy (Shirstine) Rahkola, Jeff Rahkola, Jonathan (Shannon) Rahkola and Justin Schlatter. Dorothy enjoyed her special visits from her great-great-nieces and nephews, Addyson, Mikko, Mila, Ethan, Maxwell, Everett and McCoy.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 17th until the 10:30 a.m. Memorial Service at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2012 E. Superior Street, Duluth. Inurnment will take place at Oneota Cemetery in the Spring.
