Obituary of Robert DuWayne Turner

Robert (Bob) Turner, 89, was born on September 8, 1934, in St. Cloud, MN. He departed from this world at home after a lengthy illness on February 6, 2024, with his family by his side.

Bob taught Spanish and Wilderness Living for 26 years at Duluth Central High School at both their downtown and hilltop locations. Bob found his freedom and joy primarily in the outdoors. He was a camper and made dozens of trips to the BWCAW, and he had a cabin on Thompson Lake for many years. Bob’s favorite time of the year was winter when he could downhill and cross-country ski, snowshoe, and snowmobile. He was a ski patrol member at Giants Ridge and Mont du Lac for over 20 years. At age 65, he became a certified scuba diver, and completed almost 100 dives. Bob created countless memories and experiences with his wife of 67 years, Patti, his sons, and friends in his outdoor activities.

Bob was preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Edna Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Patti; sons Bob, Brian (Claudia) and Mike (Carol); grandchildren Jeff, Casey, Matthew, Eric, Rachel, Addison, and Carson; and great-grandchildren, Soraya, Karis, Jeffrey, Virginia, and George. Rest in peace, Bob, and paddle on in the eternal sunshine.

You will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Bob’s family wants to thank the outstanding hospice team from Ecumen.
