Obituary of Donald L. Nowakowski

Donald L. Nowakowski, 89, died on January 12, 2024. He was born to Leo and Helen Nowakowski on June 6, 1934, in Duluth, MN. Donald and Roberta were married on June 1, 1957, and celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Don served in the Korean War, worked at the Duluth News Tribune, and loved his job as a pressman at the Star Tribune until he retired in 1996. He loved fishing and hunting and said his life was blessed with family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Berta Nowakowski; father, Leo Nowakowski; stepfather, Stanley Wentkiewicz; mother, Helen Wentkiewicz; and brothers, Joe Nowakowski and Tony Wentkiewicz.

Don is survived by his children, Dawn (Brian) Trexel and Chad Nowakowski; grandchildren, Jake (Kelsey) Trexel and Kate Trexel; great-grandchildren, Beau and Ayla Trexel; sisters, Kitty (Don) Sinjem, Connie Brown and Cindy Wentkiewicz; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Per his wishes, the burial will be private.
