Kristi Kerawala

Obituary of Kristi Ann Kerawala

Our beloved wife, mom, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, January 19th , after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

The world was forever changed for the better on August 30th, 1961, when Kristi was born. From the time she was little, Kristi captured everyone’s hearts with her beautiful smile, big blue eyes, and infectious personality. She was the middle child of the five Greenwood children, the one who connected everyone together. After several moves around the country, the Greenwood family settled in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, where Kristi grew up surrounded by friends and family.

Kristi met her husband Felix in 1987, while they both worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Felix likes to say one wide grin from Kristi was all it took, and the rest was history. In 1989, they welcomed their daughter, Atia, and in 1993, they moved into Kristi’s dream home in the Knob Hill neighborhood in Burnsville, Minnesota. The Kerawala home immediately became the gathering spot for friends and family. Kristi believed in community and opening her home to everyone. She was the ultimate hostess: If she could find a reason to celebrate, then there would be a party at the Kerawala’s. The room lit up when she entered it, and we will all miss the sound of her signature laugh and welcoming hugs.

It is impossible to measure the hole Kristi is leaving in all our lives. She was so generous and truly selfless; always looking out for her family and friends. She was fiercely loyal and a tireless advocate for everyone in her life. She was always gracious and had an unmatched inner strength that was a beacon to all who were blessed to know her. We will all miss her deeply, but we know she has found her beach. She is sitting with her toes in the sand between Jim and Dee, ready to greet us all when our time comes.

Kristi is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Delores Greenwood.

She is survived by her husband, Felix Kerawala and her daughter, Atia Kerawala, as well as her sisters Cyndi (Brian) Peterson and Karen (Randy) Couey and brothers Craig (Judy) Greenwood and Steve (Theresa Green) Greenwood. She is loved and missed by 6 nieces: Krista (Michael) Eittreim, Lexi Greenwood, Katarina Greenwood, Emily Greenwood, Isabelle Greenwood and Sarah Greenwood, and 5 nephews: Douglas Peterson, Daniel Greenwood, Dustin Peterson, Collin Couey, and Cade Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Kristi’s name to the Angel foundation at Angel Foundation™ (mnangel.org). The Angel Foundation offers relief to adults with cancer and their loved ones through financial assistance, education, and emotional support. In keeping with her incredibly generous spirit, her wish is that those less fortunate who are battling this terrible disease will be able to afford treatment options.
