Obituary of Richard Lee Smith
Richard "Dick" Lee Smith, 88, of Duluth, died on June 2, 2016, in Chris Jensen.
Dick was born at home on Aug. 9, 1927 in Nassau, Minn., to Guy and Nellie Smith.
He served in the Navy at the end of World War II in the Philippines, married Phyllis Reich in 1951, and taught behind the wheel drivers' training and junior high math in Proctor until retirement in 1984.
Dick was a story-teller, outdoorsman, avid reader, and family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, and a brother.
He is survived by wife, Phyllis of 65 years; brother, Lyle (Delores) Smith; son, Kraig (Patricia) Smith; daughter, Gayle Ankarlo; son, Robert (Kelly) Smith; son, Bradley (Sandy) Smith; son, Brett (Teresa) Smith; daughter, Janine (David) Malberg; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, in Mount of Olives Baptist Church, 1500 Swan Lake Road in Duluth.
