Obituary of Eileen E. Amundson

Eileen E. Amundson, known to many as “Corky” died peacefully Dec. 31, 2023.  She was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Mondovi, WI, to Eugene and Ollie (Jordet) Pfund.  After attending Gilman Valley School, she graduated from Gilmanton High School and earned a scholarship to River Falls State College.  In 1942 she was employed at Northwestern National Bank and Trust Co. in Minneapolis.

Eileen married Cpl. Ray K. Amundson, in uniform, March 15, 1943 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Modena, WI.  They were blessed with three sons…Dennis, Brian and Michael.  As an Air Force wife, she accompanied her husband to many interesting assignments, with 29 different addresses, including tours of duty in London, England and Tripoli, Libya, family included.  Their worldly travels gave them a multitude of friends and memories. They moved to Winona in 1969 when her husband retired from the Air Force and accepted a position at Winona State University.  “This is joyfully only 50 miles from the old home farm and territory!!!!!! Joy! Joy! Joy!” she wrote in the biography of their travels.

She is survived by sons Dennis and Michael (Cynthia); daughter-in-law Rhonda; 5 grandchildren Chad, Julie, Jason, Carrie and Jamee; and 6 great grandchildren Sophia, Lauren, Saana, Lucy, Wes and Jaxson. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Brian, parents, sister Joan, brother Don, brother-in-law Galen, sister-in-law Donna and daughter-in-law Jeri.

Eileen will be buried alongside her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in a private family gathering.  The family requests memorials be directed to Benedictine Living Community-Winona (formerly known as Callista Court), Moments Hospice or a charity of your choice.
