Jones, Herbert W
Age 66, passed away December 28, 2023 of liver failure at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Preceded in death by parents Nancy and David, half-sister Hilary and beloved cat Pima. Survived by sister Cynthia (Janice), half brother David (Jennifer), niece Makayla, nephews Kyle and Oliver and adored cats Scooter, Honeybear and Tommy.
Herb lived life with passion through a roller coaster of ups and downs. He was creative, artistic, musical, athletic and so curious about all life had to offer.
After graduating from West High in Minneapolis he completed a BA from the University of Minnesota and began to dabble in bending neon glass. He went to NYC for a short time to study architecture. When he returned to Minneapolis he started Neon Design. He and his small company were responsible for many of the neon signs in downtown Minneapolis in the 80s including the lobby of Target Center.
He went back to the U of M in his early 30s to take prerequisites for applying to medical school and at age 35 he enrolled at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he specialized in radiology. Herb’s passions were animals (especially cats), hockey, vegetable gardening, vegetarianism, cooking, music of all kinds, swimming in Cedar Lake, U of M Gopher football, traveling the world, Turner classic movies, reading and having an eclectic and ever expanding group of amazing friends.
We would like to express our grateful appreciation to so many special friends that supported Herb and our family during the weeks of his sudden and heartbreaking hospitalization. And to the amazing staff at Abbott Northwestern Hospital who took such precious and skilled care of Herb, we cannot thank you enough.
