Obituary of Richard Thorvald Nielsen

Richard Thorvald Nielsen, 82, died peacefully Monday, June 6, 2016, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. He was born Nov. 24, 1933, to Martha (Bagge) and Alfred Nielsen in Askov. He graduated from Askov High School in 1951. Dick married his sweetheart Ida McCuskey May 8, 1954. Dick worked for Elliot Meat Packing in Duluth until he was hired by USS and moved his family to Chisholm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing and visiting with family and friends. He was loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Ida; four daughters: Sandy (Bill Trelford) Nielsen, Vicki (Steve Batinich) Daniels, Lauri (Dan Charter) Nielsen and Leslie (fiancé, Boyd Peterson) Nielsen; four grandchildren: Joel Daniels, Whitney (Josh) Ridlon, Ricky Nielsen and Chris Charter: one great-grandchild: Ida Delphine Ridlon; four sisters: Darlene (Don) Culliton, Gail Keefe, Lila Lund and Linda (Hector) Diaz; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Yorki, Loki. Funeral: Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Chisholm United Methodist Church, 307 S.W. First Ave., Chisholm, MN 55719. Lunch will follow the service. Visitation: Will be held one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
