Obituary of John J. Oslund
Age 70, Minneapolis, MN passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Bloomington, MN. He was born February 8, 1953, to John Oslund Sr. and Catherine Oslund in Austin, TX when his father was in the Air Force. He later moved to Minneapolis. John attended Resurrection Elementary School, Ramsey Middle School and Washburn High School. He attended the University of Minnesota but left to work at the Minneapolis Star. Later he completed his degree and a few years later went to Columbia University in NYC to complete a master’s degree in business journalism. He worked at the Star Tribune as a reporter and editor in business for over 35 years and retired in 2014. This was his true passion. As a young man, he received his private’s pilot license before he could get his driver’s license. While in college he became certified to be a SCUBA diver and for 30 years was a sailor with his wife Bonnie. He will be remembered for his extremely dry sense of humor, quick wit and quirky one liners and he was always ready to try something new. Preceded in death by both parents John and Rene Oslund and survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie, daughter Abigail (Bryan) Axelrod, son Jonathan (Kristy) Oslund and his 3 little buddies, grandsons Nye Axelrod, Ari Axelrod and Johnny Oslund. He is also survived by brother Thomas (Nancy), sister Duchie Van Hoven (Dave), sister Patty Bremer, and sister Jane Oslund (Mike Wiley). Many beloved nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank Breck Home Residential Care for such warm, gentle and kind care given to him during the last few months. The celebration of Life will be March 16, 2024, 1-4 pm at Heather’s located at 5201 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55417. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or Breck Home Residential Care 312 W. 95th St. Bloomington, MN 55420.
