Obituary of Judy Nell Hostnick

Judy Nell Hostnick, age 86, long time resident of Edina, MN, passed away on December 7, 2023, after living with Parkinson’s Disease.

Judy was born on May 19, 1937, to Paul and Leola Waters of Minneapolis, MN.  She graduated from Holy Angels High School.    She then went on to study Nursing at Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park Illinois, graduating as a Registered Nurse.  She secured her first job at the Chicago State Psychiatric Hospital for a short period of time and moved on to the Veterans Hospital of Chicago, kicking off a 58-year career in Nursing. She married Douglas Hostnick on November 27, 1965, and together they raised four daughters.  After years of working full time, she returned to school to earn a Master of Arts and Pastoral Studies from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN (1992).  She was also a trained Healing Touch Practitioner.  Towards the end of her nursing career, she specialized in care for the elderly, which she thoroughly enjoyed the relationships she developed with her clients and families.  She continued working until she was 76 years old.

After retiring, Judy spent time reading, watercolor painting, gardening and sewing, decorating the house with antiques, traveling the world with Doug, having coffee with her dear friends, and spending time at their cottage in Wisconsin.  She spread love to everyone on her path, we will miss her dearly.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Paul Waters, Lee and Loyd Melville, her sister Patricia and brother-In-Law, Budd Cummings, and their three children Michael, Susan, and Katie.

She is survived by her husband and loving companion of 58 years; Douglas, four daughters; Molly Lee Hostnick of Bloomington, MN; Patricia Ann (Peter) Ring of Mazomanie, Wi.; Katherine Mary (Judd) Harper of Robbinsdale, MN, and Margaret Mary Hostnick & Mark Thomason of Seattle WA, and nine grandchildren:  Kaitlin (Taylor) Maier of Mazomanie, Wi.; Alex Ring of Chicago, Ill.; Anna Grace Ring of Mazomanie, Wi.; Lucas, Andrew and Joseph Harper of Robbinsdale, MN; Wren, Sophia and Matthew Thomason of Seattle, Wa.; one great granddaughter, Piroska Maier of Mazomanie, Wi; two nieces; Ann and Sheila.  All of whom she deeply loved and cherished.
