Obituary of Marv Thorsen

Marv Thorsen, aged 74, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He succumbed to complications of frontotemporal dementia, a battle he fought with courage and grace.

Marv was not only a beloved figure within his family but also a pillar in the Electrical Industry for over 40 years. His dedication and expertise led him to become the President of Lesco Inc. before his retirement in 2015. Marv's contributions to the industry will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Born in Portland, OR and raised in St.Paul, Marv graduated from Washington High School in 1967. He had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures. Marv deeply cherished his family, friends, and the memories they created together. Ski trips, pool parties, and hunting and golf outings were among his favorite pastimes. Como Zoo and Park were some of his favorite places in the city. He and his wife Sandi had wedding photos taken here and he often took his kids and grandkids to see the wolves. He looked forward to the State Fair every year and made it an annual tradition for over 60 years. He loved sports and was the  #1 fan for his 7 grandson’s various teams and and an avid supporter Minnesota sports teams, particularly the MN Gophers, Vikings, Twins, Wild, and the former North Stars.

Marv had a captivating twinkle in his eye that could light up a room and bring a smile to anyone's face. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Thorsen, his mother, Virginia Thorsen, his older sister, Barbara Thorsen, and his younger brother, Peter Thorsen. Their memories will all be forever be cherished.

Marv is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sandi Thorsen, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his children and grandchildren: daughter Kate (Boatman) and her husband Ben, grandsons Tanner, Finn, and Brody, daughter Mandi (Millard) and her husband Joel, and grandsons Marvin, Vinny, Franklin, and Louie. Marv is also survived by his older brother Dave Thorsen and his wife Glenys, older sisters Carole (Rust), and Marilyn (Paul Thompson) and sister-in-law Colleen Thorsen and their loving families of nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces.

In honor of Marv's memory, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Friends of Como to preserve conservation, animal care, and horticulture with barrier-free access for all or Our Lady of Peace Hospice, an organization that provided compassionate care and support during his final days.
