Obituary of Francis E. Haupert

Francis (Frank) E. Haupert

On November 29, 2023, Frank Haupert, 91, passed away peacefully in the company of his family.

Frank was born on September 17, 1932, to Lawrence and Hedwig Haupert in Pipestone, MN where he lived and worked on the family farm. Like several of his siblings, Frank proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. After his time in the service, he drew on his talent of “tinkering” and became an auto mechanic, which was his vocation for over 40 years, retiring from Downtown Pontiac in 1992 after more than 30 years of service there.

Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn (Mitchell) Haupert. Together, they raised 5 children in Brooklyn Center, MN. After retiring, Marilyn and Frank made a permanent residence on their property in Big Lake, MN after many years of enjoying the “cabin” with family for vacations and get-togethers.  As retirees, they headed south, wintering in Pharr, TX for over 20 years. Frank was also a member of the Crystal VFW POST 494 and the Big Lake American Legion.

Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with family at the lake. Those who knew him best, know that Frank’s “tinkering” ways did not end with his retirement. He did not believe in throwing anything away, as everything could be fixed, or repurposed into something completely different.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Arthur and Lillian; brothers, Louie, Joe, Harold and Larry (Barb); sister, Rita Mae (Vernon) Dickey; brother-in-law, Hank Schneller.  He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn; children, Jerry (Kay), Randy (Donna), Lenny (Christi), Dennis (Danielle), and Theresa (Chad) Gillispie; 11 Grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Karen) and Ron (Jan); sisters, Geraldine (Daryl) Voss, Pat Schneller, Shirley (Jerry) Barthel; sisters-in-law, Gwen and Marian Haupert.

Friends and family are invited to call from 10 -11 AM on Wednesday, December 27th at the Cremation Society of MN, 7835 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Park [google.com]. A memorial service celebrating his life will immediately follow. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2:00PM.
