Obituary of Joan Mary Super
Joan Mary Super, aged 89, died peacefully on November 21, 2023, at Cerenity Care Center-Marian in Saint Paul, MN.
Joan was born in Pike Creek Township, MN on March 8, 1934, the eldest child of Cecilia A. (Lesinski) Super and Sylvester S. Super. She attended elementary and high schools in Little Falls, graduating from St Francis High School in 1952. She was crowned Miss Winter Wonderland her senior year and represented her hometown at the 1952 Saint Paul Winter Carnival. After graduation, Joan worked for the Rosenmeier & Simonet law firm in Little Falls as a legal secretary and also for the local radio station, KLTF.
Joan married LeRoy E. Moore on May 30, 1955, in Little Falls. After living in Fargo, Grand Forks, and Brainerd, they moved back to Joan's hometown of Little Falls, building a house on Hawthorne Avenue where they raised their children, and where Joan was to live for over fifty years. After her children were grown, Joan was employed in the Archives Department at the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, where she worked for twenty years before retiring in 2002.
Joan was active in her parish of Saint Mary's Church in Little Falls, singing in both the Saint Mary's choir and an ecumenical choir for many years, and volunteering at Saint Mary's School. She was a Camp Fire Girls leader, as well as a member of the PTA and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She was an avid bowler, gardener, and MN Vikings fan, and loved playing cards. She had a remarkable ability to make lifelong friends.
Joan is survived by her children Cynthia J. Moore, Debra M. (Mark) Kummer. Rebecca J. Nelson, Stephen M. (Deb) Moore, Susan M. (Douglas Winn) Moore, and Michael T. Moore; grandchildren Joseph E. (Gina) Nelson, Anthony S. (Jess) Nelson, Emma J. (Donal) Turrentine, Anna M. (Chris) Nuñez, and Elizabeth G. (Adrian) Welle; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brother Howard J. (Judee) Super.
We will never forget her warmth and affable nature, as well as her sense of humor. We will miss her tremendously.
A private funeral Mass was celebrated in Minneapolis with burial in Little Falls.
