Obituary of Vicki Lynn Boyer

Vicki L. Boyer (nee Brown) passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023, in Duluth, MN, at the age of 72.

She was born the eldest of five girls and one boy to Darlene and Lewis Brown, in Janesville, WI in 1951. After residing in Lake Mills, WI and Virginia, MN, her family moved to Duluth in 1959. Vicki attended Lowell and Lester Park Elementary Schools, Ordean Jr., and East High School. Vicki was confirmed at the former First United Methodist Church on 3rd Ave. W. and 3rd St., the predecessor of the coppertop church on Skyline Parkway. She was an active member of Job’s Daughters Bethel 72; she graduated from Senior Girl Scouting having been an active Girl Scout for 9½ years. Before graduating from East in 1969, Vicki enjoyed choir with Mr. Mix and theatre and musical productions with Mr. Canfield. She was a member of the National Thespian Society and was recognized for Excellent Service to Theatre. She attended the College of St. Scholastica, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Medical Technology with a Minor in Chemistry. Vicki worked at Jeno’s Pizza Plant in Duluth and later as a dispatcher for the Tip Top Taxi Company in Superior while she took additional courses at UW – Superior and prior to moving to Milwaukee, WI in the early 1980’s. There she excelled as a medical technologist for Sinai Samaritan/Aurora Sinai Medical Center, working 3rd shift for her entire career. She eventually moved back to Duluth to be closer to family and friends in 2021.

In her spare time, Vicki enjoyed participating in various bowling, dart, and cribbage leagues. She had an artistic side that reflected her talent for quilting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and jewelry-making, among other skills. Vicki was very interested in genealogy, an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling domestically and abroad. Her love for animals of all kinds is only surpassed by her love for friends accumulated over the course of her life, and for her family, both immediate and extended.

Vicki is survived by her mother. E. Darlene Brown, sisters Patti L. Villars and Darci L. Wutz (Richard) and brother William D. Brown; niece Serena L. Brown and nephew Michael L. Brown. She is preceded in death by her father Lewis D. Brown; sisters Joni L. Woodward (John) and Kristi L. Brown; and her former husband, John Boyer. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 30, 2023, with visitation to begin at 2pm, followed by the memorial service at 3pm, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN 55807. Special thanks to the caring Essentia Hospice staff and the staff at Solvay Hospice House who made Vicki’s journey from this life to the next a comforted, dignified and peaceful one. Vicki will be interred at Forest Hill Cemetery in Duluth at a future date.
