Obituary of Marlys Morrill Chutich
Chutich, Marlys age 88, a woman of boundless curiosity, tremendous kindness, and deep generosity, died peacefully with family at her side after a full, wonderful life. She leaves a legacy of love for her family and all those touched by her optimistic presence. Marlys grew up in St. Louis Park and graduated from the University of Minnesota. There she met and married Joe, her husband of almost 60 years. Marlys and Joe made Anoka their home, running Joe's Hardware Hank Store for 32 years. The store was known for generously giving credit to those who were struggling, and favors for this kindness were returned for years to come. Marlys loved sports. She was an avid tennis player, could throw the football for a long bomb to her kids/receivers and on the basketball court could sink her patented two-handed set shot with the best of them. Most of all, she adored her family and the adoration and love was returned in kind. She never missed an opportunity to support her children and grandchildren in any interest or activity in which they participated. Marlys will be deeply missed, but we are grateful for the love, support, and positive attitude that she has shared with us and with so many others in her life. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Harold, by her brother Jerry, and by her cherished husband Joe. She is survived by her children Cathy (Charles Martin), Michael (Susan Gretz), Margaret (Penny Wheeler), and Wendy Ogaard (Ryan), along with her brother Byron, and her four grandchildren Brett, Annelise, Toby, and Olivia. She is also survived by her dear friend, Mr. Lou Morse, who made her later years so special. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Anoka, 1923 Third Avenue South, Anoka, MN, on Thursday, June 16th, with a visitation at 3:00 p.m. and service at 4:00 p.m. Memorials preferred to the Chutich Family Scholarship at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota or to the First Congregational Church of Anoka.
