Obituary of Elizabeth Antus Zmyslony

Elizabeth "Betty" Antus Zmyslony, 86, passed away Sunday June 12, 2016, in Duluth. She was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Ashland, and lived in Oulu until moving to Duluth in 1944. Betty attended Warren and Washington Schools in Oulu and graduated in 1947, from Duluth Central High School. She worked at Mando Photo, Zenith Interstate News, Kelly-Howe Thompson, Montgomery Ward Catalog department and was a substitute educational assistant for No. 709 Duluth School district. She was a member of the National Honor Society, a Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader, V.F.W. Auxillary, Charter member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, past president of Woman of St. Lawrence Club, OK (older kids) Club at St. Lawrence, helped on the committee for Duluth Central High School class reunions. Betty married Joseph Zmyslony, June 24, 1950 and celebrated 54 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her father, John Antus March 15, 1936; mother, Mary Antus, Aug. 10, 1992; sister, Margaret (Margie) Tulonen, June 11, 1990; husband, Joseph on Nov. 10, 2004; daughter, Joanne Zmyslony Parker on June 18, 2009; son-in-law, Brian Bijold, April 19, 2008; and son-in-law, Daniel Overlie, Dec. 27, 2013. Betty is survived by one son, Michael (Susan) Zmyslony; two daughters, Jeanet Bijold and Mary Overlie; two grandchildren (the joy of her life) Jenna Min Zmyslony and John Michael Zmyslony; three step grandchildren, Shylo (DJ) Ekstrom, Deacon Overlie, Jesse Overlie; six step great-grandchildren, Tayler Kehtel, Layla Ekstrom, Ashton Ekstrom, Maccoy Overlie, Aiden Overlie, Max Overlie. She had the honor of being godmother to Jim Croft, George Jatzo, Jerry Cadotte, Jerry St. Marie, Jon Hammerstrom, Jammie Hammerstrom and Cindy Fuller. A special thank you to St. Luke's Hospice and very dear friends Betty Merling and Linda Jorgenson. SERVICE: 12 Noon Thursday June 23, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with a visitation one hour prior and lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family.
