Obituary of Gwethalyn Ione Jaeger

Gwethalyn Ione (Engel) Jaeger passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Lakeville, MN surrounded by family on November 10, 2023 at the age of 79.

Gweth was born on October 19, 1944 in St. Peter, MN to Leona (Menk) and Waldemar Engel. She grew up and attended school in Nicollet, MN graduating from High School in 1962. Gweth worked in Mankato MN until she met and married Albert Jaeger on December 6, 1969. Al and Gweth operated the Jaeger farm in Mapleton, MN. In 1981, they moved to Baudette, MN where they owned and operated a fishing resort called the Red Carpet Lodge for several years. In 1986 they left the resort business and Gweth started her career working at Lakewood Care Center. Gweth began as a nursing assistant but later went back to school at Hibbing Community College where she earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1994. Gweth worked at the Care Center for 25 years before her retirement in June of 2011.

Gweth was talented at quilting, sewing, and all things crafty. She made great potato salad and decorated cakes for everyone’s special event. She had a gift for caring for the elderly and in her retirement, spent her time with grandchildren teaching them to sew, cook, and play board games. In June of 2023, Gweth traveled with the entire family on a Disney cruise to Alaska. Gweth was a member of Wabanica Lutheran Church and later St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lakeville.

Gweth is survived by her daughters, Jennalyn Jaeger of Lakeville, MN, Annie (Brad) Pierce of Farmington, MN and Jillian (Donald) Crook of Farmington, MN: 10 grandchildren, Joseph, Brady, Lillyann, Allie, Cameron, Ava, Isaac, Lila, Isabella and Maxwell: and siblings, Zerelda, Yolanda, Arlawayne and Wyman. Gweth was preceded in death by her husband Albert Jaeger and her parents.

A Celebration of Life for Gweth Jaeger will be held on Monday, November 27th, 2023. The Visitation will be at 10am and service to follow at 11am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lakeville MN. The service will be live streamed at www.sjlcl.org
