Obituary of Sue Alison Barton
In Memory of
Sue Alison Barton
1943 – 2023
Sue Alison Barton (Ivory) passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Wellstead of Rogers Senior Living Memory Care in Minnesota. Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, January 1, 1943, daughter of the late Dr. Paul Stetson Ivory and Martha Vivian Marquart Ivory, Sue grew up in south Minneapolis attending the Minneapolis Public Schools and the University of Minnesota.
After graduating from Washburn High School in 1960, where she was involved in writing activities, playing violin in the orchestra, studying with the associate concertmaster of the Minneapolis Symphony, and as a senior was selected for the top 2% Honor Group, Sue went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She married the late Richard Paul Barton June 28, 1969, and they were long-time Maple Grove, MN, residents. Together they owned Prim Rose Secretarial Services in Roseville, MN, where Sue worked for many years. Sue and her husband enjoyed country music and always told stories of their enjoyable trips to Branson, MO, to hear live music there. They were also devoted Vikings football fans.
The family is grateful for Sue’s thoughtful, kind, and supportive neighbors throughout her years in Maple Grove, especially Barb Spangrud and Judy & Tony Hoffman who beautifully and graciously represented Sue after she was hospitalized, and grateful for her long-time friendship since college with Nannette Donnell Stariha of Georgia. Her sister Jill Ivory Schwartz and husband Charles of North Carolina and their family, and an extended family of cousins survive Sue. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka, MN, alongside her husband. A memorial gathering will be held for the family in North Carolina. Sue’s smile and easy laughter will always be a loving part of our memories of her.
