Obituary of Susan Arey Metsala

 

Metsala, Susan Arey age 86, of Savage, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. & Mrs. S L Arey and her beloved sister, Lyn Arey Pewitt.

Susan is survived by her adoring husband, Charles; her siblings, Jane Gilbert (Fritz), and Stuart Arey (Virginia); the children of her first marriage to George Fisher, Hank, Cico (Gary), Beth (Frank) & Mark (Ana); and Chuck's children, Mark, LeeRan (Tim) & Carrie; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; extended family & many friends, including the many Sunday School children she taught over the years at Community of the Cross Lutheran Church, who all fondly called her "Grandma Sue".

Susan grew up on Lake Harriet and would often be seen sailing her sailboats, The Lazy Susan I & II. She attended Washburn High and Iowa State. Susan will be remembered for her unique sense of style, sporting fabulous hand-sewn outfits. Her sewing talents expanded with her many quilts stitched over the years, including graduation quilts for each grandchild & baby quilts for great-grandies. Her other passions included golf, birding & RV'ing around the country with her husband. Susan lived a life of faith and was very active in her church.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Community of the Cross Lutheran Church in Bloomington on Monday, November 6th with Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m.

Flowers are welcome and memorials can be sent to Sue's favorite charities, American Diabetes Association and Parkinson's Foundation.
