Obituary of Leona “Lee” Werness
Leona "Lee" (Oswald) Werness, our beloved and Godly mother, age 82, of Edina, died on Saturday from complications following an unexpected stroke. She is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on Jan 21, 1934 to Christian and Agnes (Pieri) Oswald in Buffalo, MN. She attended Buffalo public schools and graduated from Buffalo HS in 1952. She was crowned Miss Buffalo that same year. She enrolled into the Swedish Hospital Nursing program and graduated in 1955. She was married to G. Robert "Bob" Werness on April 14, 1955 and together raised four sons and a daughter. She was employed as an executive receptionist for UnitedHealth Group in Minnetonka for more than twenty years, where she was truly God's light and loved by so many for her warmth, encouraging words, and her never ending thoughtful acts of kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol, brother Norman, and her husband of 32 years, G. Robert "Bob" Werness. She is survived by her five children, daughter Lorrie (Jeff) Oistad of Sartell, MN; sons, Taylor (Peggy) of Richfield, Spencer (Pixie) of Burnsville, Keith (Peggy) of Farmington, and Craig "Bump" (Cari) of Anoka; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday 6 pm at Grace Church of Eden Prairie with visitation from 4-6 pm. There will a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service. A private interment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo, MN on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
