Obituary of Richard Joseph Wagemaker

Richard "Dick" Joseph Wagemaker, 75, of St. Louis Park, MN died peacefully October 22, 2023 at his beloved cabin on Big Kandiyohi Lake. Dick was raised in Olivia, MN by a family who was faith-filled, charitable, and welcoming to all. He earned a teaching degree at St. Cloud State University and spent ten years teaching Physical Education at St. Joe’s in Hopkins. For the next thirty years he worked at Target until his retirement in 2012. Dick loved watching, playing, and coaching sports, hunting and fishing with his friends and son-in law, and more than anything, being a dad. Later in life, he loved being a grandpa just as much. He never forgot any person or story, and made every decision with deep integrity. He was kind to all and extremely generous. He always put his family before himself and made sure they were able to live the lives they imagined. Dick was a devoted husband and shared 49 years of marriage with his wife Jane. Dick was preceded in death by mother Fern Wagemaker, father Neal Wagemaker, brother Jack Wagemaker, and aunt Mary Russell. Dick is survived by wife Jane (Wold) Wagemaker, daughters Kate Berry (Paul), Anne Wagemaker (Ben Nelson), grandchildren Jane and Jack Berry, and sister in law Sue Wagemaker. He will be deeply missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior and luncheon to follow at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2914 W. 44th Street Minneapolis, MN 55410. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whittier International School in Minneapolis.
