Obituary of Dale A. Johnson

He was born on Oct. 28, 1932, in Bricelyn, Minn., to Otis and Olive Johnson. He was the the fourth of six children. He graduated from Bricelyn High School. He married Valoris (Lori) Leland on July 11, 1953. Dale served in the U.S. Army from July 29, 1953 to May 17, 1955. After his discharge they moved to Austin, where he attended the Austin Vocational School. They moved to Red Wing in 1956, where he was employed by Meyer Industries until he retired. He was an active member of the United Lutheran Church, Golden Kiwanis, BPO Elks Lodge #845, and the American Legion Post #345. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, dancing, polka music, football, NASCAR, and traveling. He always enjoyed a good joke. One of his greatest joys were his grandchildren, spending time with them, and vacationing at Breezy Point every summer with his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lori; two daughters Kim (K.C.) Flueger, and Kristen (Dennis) Herling; five grandchildren, Patrick, Alison and Kevin Flueger, and Kyle and Kayla Herling, two sisters; Margaret Courrier of Walters, Minn., and Mary (Victor) Nelson of Albert Lea, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Darlene Johnson of Bricelyn, Minn.; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Joy; and two brothers, Rollie and Richard Johnson. Dale's life will be celebrated at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, with Pastor Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to United Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic Health System Red Wing Hospice, or the American Lung Association are preferred.
