Obituary of Dixie Vella

Dixie (Luvaas) Vella was born March 20, 1945 in Watertown, SD to Morris and Anita Luvaas of Clark, SD. Dixie attended Clark High school, then Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD graduating in 1967 with degrees in Art and German. Dixie then moved to Minneapolis and began working at WCCO radio. In 1969 she joined Hoshal Advertising agency where she worked using her artistic and copy writing skills for 40 years. Dixie Married Alex Vella in November 1976 and have one son – Anthony. Dixie was an accomplished artist and volunteered at Poplar bridge school in their “Art Masterpiece” program. Dixie loved to travel, and together with the family travelled the 4 corners of the world indulging in her passion for people, places and cultures. Dixie was an avid reader and on top of everything going on in the world. More recently, she was a member of “Middle East Peace Now” an organization dealing with the Palestine/Israel situation. She became president, a post she held for 3 years. Dixie lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma at age 71. She died peacefully at home at 11:55am on Thursday June 23rd 2016 She was preceded in death by her parents – Morris & Anita Luvaas; several aunts, uncles and Cousins She will be lovingly remembered by her Husband Alex and son Anthony, Sister Sandy, Brother Darrell and numerous nieces, nephews and family members and friends in the USA, UK, and Malta. Memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, June 30th at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina, MN 55435. Visitation will begin at 5 pm. Reception to follow.
