Obituary of Anneliese Sorensen
Anneliese Sorensen, age 98, of White Bear Lake, MN, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023. Anneliese is survived by daughter Meg Voigtschild; son Tom Sorensen and his wife Trese; grandchildren D.J. (Tiffany) Rodman, Sara (Jason) Grove, Tom Rodman and Chris Sorensen; and great-grandchildren Alex and Aly Rodman and Zach, Katie and Luke Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Ambrose, her parents and three sisters. Living until 98 meant she outlived all her in-laws and cousins as well. Anneliese was born in Germany on December 25, 1924, the third of four daughters. Anneliese and Ambrose met in her hometown of Bullay on the Mosel River while he was serving with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. They were married in Bullay, and then crossed the ocean and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota. Anneliese worked in a variety of professions, but her favorite was her time as a teller in the international banking department at American National Bank in St. Paul. After Ambrose died, Anneliese moved into Washington Square Apartments in White Bear Lake where she lived happily, and independently, the past twenty-two years - she was very proud of how she was able to take care of herself. She was an avid reader, oftentimes with two books going at a time. Over the years she organized and participated in many groups, including game night, leading exercises for the residents, and rosary club. She crocheted baby blankets and donated them to her church, Saint Mary of the Lake. She took her role as apartment librarian very seriously. Anneliese was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a good friend to all those who knew her. Visitation Thursday, 10/26/23, from 10-11am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, at Saint Mary of the Lake, White Bear Lake. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
