Obituary of Florence Miller

Florence Miller passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community in Duluth, MN.

She was born Sigrid Florence Harju on January 22, 1932, in Rock, Michigan (Maple Ridge Township, Delta County), daughter and 4th child, of Laina Amanda Rusi and Alexander Harju. Her father died when Florence was quite young. She grew up in South Range, Wisconsin, with her mother and stepfather, Paul Woimala, and graduated from Central High School in Superior, WI, in 1950.

Flo worked at many jobs, including the Palomar Club, UW-Superior, Anishinabe Legal Aid and St. Mary’s Hospital, finally retiring for the 4th time, at age 75. She loved socializing, shopping, sewing and slot machines. And of course, her beloved Vikings football team. She was a friend of Bill for almost 40 years and took her sponsor role seriously.

Florence was married to and divorced from Donald Tibbs, Robert Grimsrud and Woodrow Miller, all of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Jessica Hanna, and her son-in-law, Bill Andrews.

Florence is survived by her six children: Paula Tibbs, Vicki Andrews, Donald Tibbs (Ida), Geri (Stephen) Fresacher, Robin Grimsrud (Patrick), and Marc (Tamme) Miller; her grandchildren: James (Michelle) Hazelton, Jamie Hanna, Aldon (Margaret) Tibbs, Casey Tibbs, Jack Tibbs (Elena), Matthew Majerle, Chloe (Jake) Hoffman, Brock Miller, Bryce Miller, and Brody Miller; her great-grandchildren: Cassiopeia Hazelton, Seth Hanna, Landon Tibbs (Geraldine), Mason Majerle, Charlotte Hoffman and Henry Hoffman; and her great-great-grandson Zane Tibbs.

We wish to thank Benedictine Living Community and St. Croix Hospice for their care and attention in the past months, to the Cremation Society of Minnesota for their kind assistance, and a special thanks to Dr. K for decades of compassionate medical care. The family is planning a private memorial celebration later in the year.

Moikka, Äiti. Rakastamme sinua.
