Obituary of Leo F. Marty
Leo "Sonny" F. Marty, 85, of Littlefork, Minn., passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Rainy Lake Medical Center, International Falls, Minn.
Leo was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Graceville, Minn., to Leo Peter and Margaret Ann (Bouressa) Marty.
After graduating from high school, Leo served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
Leo was united in marriage to Mary Lou Carriveau on May 25, 1957. Together they had six children.
Leo was a farmer, logger, mail carrier, and was famous for his home grown chickens.
He loved to make rosettes every Christmas and delivered them to his entire mail route, neighbors, and friends.
Leo’s joy came from the simple things in life like a homemade gift to a neighbor and a visit from a friend or family member. Here he showed his life motto … If a little is good, then a lot is better.
Leo was rough and gruff, but had a heart of gold and would give to anyone in need.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years; his brothers, Gene and Harold; three grandchildren, Donald, Timothy and Stephanie; and a great-grandchild, Baby Chris.
He is survived by his children, Margaret (Ronnie) Rooker, Leo “Sonny” D. (Robin) Marty, Joan (Robert) Ecklund, Gerald Marty, Ron (Sharon) Marty and Barbara Fisher, 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Jim, Roger and David Marty; and sisters, Marge Ringquist and Shari Gowers.
A celebration of Leo’s final journey will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at St. Columban’s Church, Littlefork.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be one hour prior.
