Obituary of Thomas Doshan
Thomas Paul Doshan was born to Carole and Daniel Doshan on March 11, 1943 in Crosby, Minnesota. Always competitive in spirit, Tom was the first sibling to cross the finish line on July 25, 2023.
Upon graduation from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1961, Tom moved to Minneapolis where he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a B.A. and M.A. degrees in Psychology. He later earned his PHD at the University of Iowa. Tom devoted his life to working with handicapped children and adults and later with those suffering from severe dementia and Alzheimer’s. Ironically, it was Alzheimer’s that took him from us little by little these past ten years.
Tom married Diana Myrland January 1969. He then married Patti Anderson in December, 1996, and they lived in Minnetonka. Tom and Patti’s friends and relatives enjoyed playing board games together, and Tom relished his many wins.
Tom loved basketball and golf with a passion - both as a participant and spectator. He played basketball with friends well into his sixties and golfed with his brothers until the disease would not allow him to continue. Throughout life, Tom enjoyed canoe trips to the Boundary Waters, river-rafting and overseas travel. Where there was a lake, Tom held a fishing rod in his hand.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Patti, stepdaughters Emily Anderson and Libby Westman (Peter), sisters, Susan Froehlich (Dale), Sally Doshan, brothers, Michael Doshan (Mary), Daniel Doshan (Cheryl Goulet) and Bradley Doshan.
A small family gathering to celebrate Tom’s life will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given directly to the Alzheimer’s Association in Tom’s name.
