Obituary of Robert Charles Smith

Smith, Robert "Bob" Charles passed away August 6th, 2023, just 4 days shy of his 70th birthday.

Bob was born August 10th, 1953, in Stillwater to Garld and Helen Smith. After graduating from Stillwater High School, he studied Music Education at the U of M as both an undergrad and grad student. The time he spent in band at the U was one of the highlights of his life.  

Bob had many passions in life that he passed on to his children- music, baseball, and a love for animals chief among them. Above all though, Bob lived for his family. He never missed a ballgame or concert, would wake early to clear off cars in the dead of winter, and consistently demonstrated his limitless love for his family through his actions and words. 

Bob is survived by wife of 48 years, Deborah, children Amanda and Danny (Nicole), sister Peggy (Steve), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garld and Helen Smith.

A memorial service will be held at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina on Friday, August 18th at 11 am with a visitation at 10 am. Our dad dreaded dressing up, so casual attire is encouraged.  

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lyngblomsten, Saint Paul for taking such good care of our dad in his final months. Memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society, Luther College, Decorah, IA, or the Lyngblomsten Foundation.
