Harold Gellerstedt

Obituary of Harold Gellerstedt

Harold Gellerstedt, 96, of Duluth, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 with his family by his side. Harold was born on April 16, 1920 in St. Paul, and moved with his family at age two to Cotton, Minn., where he lived until he graduated from Cotton High School. He proudly served his country during World War II from October, 1942 to December, 1945. When he returned from the war he proposed to and married the love of his life, Mary Muhvich. He worked for many years as a cement finisher, and jack-of-all-trades for A.A. Bodin and Sons. He finished his career working as a maintenance man for Cook Home and Chris Jensen in Duluth, retiring in 1985. He will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humor, amazing memory and gentle nature. Whatever life threw at him, he accepted with grace. He loved nothing more than a good meal and a good gab-session over hot coffee. His stories of life on the farm, marriage, family and his service in the South Pacific will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and one sister; his wife of 65 years, Mary and son, George. Harold is survived by his daughter, JoAnn (George) Netzel; grandchildren, Lisa and Brian (Katie) Netzel and Adam (Heidi) Gellerstedt and great-grandchildren, Elias and Clara Netzel. The family would like to thank Edgewood Vista, Chris Jensen Nursing Home and St. Luke's Hospital Hospice for the excellent care of Harold. Also, a special thank you to his barber, John Hawkinson who took special care of Harold. VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 in Edgewood Vista Chapel 4195 Westberg Rd. Hermantown. A luncheon will follow the service.
