George Tabor

Obituary of George A. Tabor

George A. Tabor of Brooklyn Park, MN passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 10, 2016. He is preceded in death by his mother Joyce Nylander and father Walter Tabor. George was born in Wadena, MN and grew up in Bloomington, MN. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1966 and was drafted to the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. Serving as a heavy truck driver, he served overseas until he was wounded. In Colorado, he recovered from his injuries (while the poor nurses put up with him). Upon returning home, he met his wonderful “first” wife, Sharon, on her 21st birthday. Sweeping her off her feet, George wooed Sharon and they were happily married ever after for 43 amazing years. During their time together, George attended and graduated Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis as a Tool & Die Maker. Joining the Machinists’ Union, he soon became involved with their activities and eventually became a Steward for the Minneapolis Water Department, where he was employed for 33 “easy-going” City-Worker years. During that time, his family grew to include his delightful children, Jason and Jenny, and handful of dogs: Tina, Scruffy, and Lucy (some of which he actually enjoyed petting). As a devoted father, he became involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and was actually a pretty awesome coach for his daughter’s softball team. He was also a Firearms Safety Instructor, was involved with Single Action Shooting Society, as well as a member of the Monticello Gun Club. His family had many (hare-brained) adventures and “wheeling “vacations too numerous to count. He was a lifetime member with the Minnesota GO-4 Wheelers since 1976. He and his family member’s shared his passion four wheeling and camping and was quickly recognized by his “jungle hat”. We all have many great memories of spending many hours in the woods, traveling many trails, and camping throughout the United States. George and family relished their “Jeeping” time in the sand and mud with many miles and excursion’s under their wheels. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working, repairing, rebuilding, and modifying anything with four wheels , watching NASCAR, reading western novels, hunting, and connecting with friends and family at every opportunity he could; especially relaxing and shooting the breeze around the campfire. George is survived by his wife Sharon Tabor of 43 years; his children Jason (Amy) Tabor and Jenny (Robert) Moore; siblings Ruth (William) Hood and Dean (Patricia) Tabor; grandchildren Serena, Alise, and Michelle Moore; Gryphon and Rayne Tabor; a collection of cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many other family and friends, and so many others his life has touched. George was an amazing friend to many and loved by all and will be deeply missed by all of us. We will all remember George for his easy smile, boisterous laugh, giving nature, broad depth of knowledge and wonderful sense of humor. His celebration of life will be at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 5005 Northwest Blvd, Plymouth, MN 55442. The visitation will begin at 10 A.M. on July 30, 2016 followed by the service at 11 A.M. We ask all flowers be sent to Beautiful Savior.
