Obituary of Harlan T. Behn
Harlan T. "Red" Behn, 89, of Duluth, Minn. passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 in St. Luke's Hospital with his family by his side.
Harlan was born on Jan. 13, 1927 in Duluth to Harold and May (Lindland) Behn.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Mobile. After returning to Duluth, Harlan spent the majority of his career working for the DWP Railroad. He was instrumental in establishing the St. Louis County Rescue Squad. An avid outdoorsman, Harlan was involved in the T.R.O.U.T. Club, Arrowhead Flyfishers and NARVE. He spent many days fishing along the North Shore and at "Secret" lake. Harlan will be remembered as a kind and generous man who had a great sense of humor and was a helper to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia Hagen; infant brother Maynard; and nephew James Hagen.
Harlan is survived by his wife Mary Anne; children Kathleen Behn, Sandy (Rod) Polson, Keith Behn and Sue (Mike) Carlson; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Katie, Ashleigh, Jeremy, Chad, Angela, Alan, Andrew, Cody and Courtny; five great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members, work and fishing buddies.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of St. Luke's 7 Floor West for the wonderful care they provided.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. gathering of family and friends until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, July 16 in Asbury United Methodist Church, 6822 Grand Ave., Duluth, Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
