Obituary of Brian Daniel Loney

Brian was born in St Paul to Basil and Louise Loney on 11/29/1944. Brian was one of four children that grew up in Maplewood, MN where he attended St Jerome Catholic school. He was an excellent student and graduated from Alexander Ramsey high school with honors. Brian received his BA in history from the Universty if Minnesota in 1966. Then a Master degree for St. Thomas in 1967.

Brian then began his teaching career in Minnesota at Taylors Falls high school and Faribault high school as a social studies teacher. In 1976 Brian began work on his Doctorate at the University of Colorado (Boulder) and completeing his Ph.D in Social Studies in 1979. While in Colorado Brian fell in love with the milder mountain climate and moved to Colorado in 1985 and was the Social Studies coordinator for the Colorado Springs school district. From 1988 until his retirement in 2009 Brian was the Social Studies coordinator for the Jefferson County district (largest school district in Colorado).

Brian enjoyed travel for both professional and personal reasons. He was active in the various education associations traveling to  Washington DC frequently. Brian was also involved with international consulting in the area of civic education and traveling to Poland, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine.

Brian loved taking his nieces and nephews on summer vacation trips to Santa Fe, Boulder and Colorado Springs.  Brian collected art with a special interest in art by the Soviet Non-conformist artists often traveling to shows in New York, San Francisco. He also was an avid reader and loved music.

Brian passed away peacefully while in memory care in Rogers Mn. Preceeded in deaths by parents Basil Loney and Louise Loney. Brian is survived by siblings Basil Loney, Michael (Linda) Loney and Margaret (Loren) Davidson as well as nieces Meghan Loney, Kelly Loney, nephew Michael Loney, niece Cristine Davidson and numerous cousins.

The Funeral Service will be held on July 27th at St Jerome Catholic Church, 380 E Roselawn Ave, St. Paul, MN. 55117. Visitation at 10am and Mass at 11. Memorials preferred to Alzheimers Association.
