Obituary of Julia Ann Wallman
Julia Ann Wallman, age 80, of Richfield, Minnesota passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023.
A dedicated mother and homemaker in her early years, Julia went on to have a successful career working for Hennepin County. She held positions in the courts as a clerk for several judges and facilitated court proceedings. The work she was most proud of was helping families as the adoptions clerk for Hennepin County until her retirement after 24 years of service.
Outside of work, Julia mastered anything she set her sights on. Incredibly skilled at knitting and crocheting, Julia made many afghans, mittens, scarves, and sweaters for family, and a variety of items that she donated to special causes. She combined her love for travel and knitting by going on several cruises for knitters where she met others that shared her passion while travelling the world. She loved to cook and hosted many dinner parties and holiday gatherings that brought the family together. A voracious reader, and a fan of a good murder mystery, she enjoyed anything Sherlock Holmes, and books by John Sanford, James Patterson, and Harlen Coben. Julia had a love for movies as well, especially James Bond with Sean Connery, and anything with Harrison Ford. She gravitated towards the more intense and serious movies, but also enjoyed movies with singing and dancing. A lifelong piano student, her love of classical and piano music was well known. Her favorites were George Gershwin, Alicia de Larrocha, Andre Previn, and Mimi Blais. She attended many concerts at Orchestra Hall and traveled to the Ragtime Festival to further her love of music.
Julia was a giving mother and loved her family fiercely. Her greatest joy was being a Grandma to her five beautiful grandchildren: Jonathan, Joshua, Sarah, Benjamin, and her great-grandson Conrad. She was so proud of them, and they brought her endless joy. She would make them lumpy spaghetti and knit them ponchos, Harry Potter scarves, and sweaters with dinosaurs on them. They would watch movies together, play with cars, and take outings to the zoo or to the mall.
The family would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to the Presbyterian Homes Flagstone community in Eden Prairie, MN. They welcomed Julia into their family and provided her with incredible care and compassion in her final years. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for Julia to keep her active and engaged in life as we navigated the difficult years after her stroke.
Julia was preceded in death by her Dad and Mom, Fred & Anne Wallman, Jr. and her brother, Fred Wallman, III. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Rumppe; Pamela Puhl-Quinn; Nancy (David) Robinson; grandchildren; brother, Michael (Marly) Wallman, and many nieces and nephews.
Per Julia’s wishes, there will not be a funeral or celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Presbyterian Homes Flagstone community. https://www.preshomes.org/get-to-know-us/foundation/support-a-community
