Obituary of Gregory Michael Aho

Gregory Michael Aho – Mike - was born on May 5th, 1940 in Chicago,
Illinois, and passed into the arms of his Savior on Saturday, May 27,
2023 at his home in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. In 1958 he married
Phyllis (Phil) Ida DeMarre, and they were married almost 59 years when
she passed away in 2017 . They had two children, Kathleen and Michael.
He donated a kidney to Michael in 2007. Michael died in January 2022.
They also had many foster children and provided a home for many
relatives at various times. Mike was active at Lutheran Church of the
Master in Brooklyn Center for many years. He and Phil lived in Haiti
for about two years where they worked at an orphanage and hospital. He
was skilled in woodworking and plumbing and electrical and heating and
cooling and just about anything mechanical and he enjoyed using those
skills not only on the job at Abbott Hospital and the city of Brooklyn
Park but also on many projects at home and at his daughter’s home in
various places where they lived. He will be remembered for his humor
and humility, his faith in Jesus and the innumerable ways he showed
God’s love. He leaves a positive impact on family across the nation,
friends from church, his neighbors, and all who knew him. Mike was a
rower of canoes, worker with wood, builder of family, harmonica
player, repairer of everything, bike rider, singer by the campfire,
archer, channel of the Holy Spirit, leader of men, friend to many, man
of God.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mike Michalk;
his precious grandchildren: Lena Michalk, Josie (Caden) Hill and
Justine Michalk, his brother Henry (Caroline) Kallio, sisters Romaine
Kramer, Hilma McClain, and Geri Baker, and many nieces and nephews.

We want to express our immense gratitude to all those who cared for
Mike in the last days of his life – especially his friends Don and
Jeff, all the wonderful people with North Memorial Hospice, the
pastors and friends from LCM who visited and the care team that helped
more than they know, his neighbors who have been like family for many
years, and all the family members who extended love in many ways.

The celebration of Mike’s faith and life will be on Thursday, June 22,
2023, at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 69th Ave N, Brooklyn
Center, MN 55430, with visitation at 1 PM, service at 2 PM and a
dessert reception to follow. Contributions to Lutheran Church of the
Master appreciated in lieu of flowers.
