Obituary of Walter William Leggate
Walter William Leggate, 87, of Superior passed away July 27, 2016, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
Walt was born on June 17, 1929, in Superior. He proudly served in our nation's Army as a young man out of high school. He married the love of his life Marilou in 1949, and was married for 67 years, commonly referring to her as his child bride. Walt was with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for over 22 years and five years with the Neillsville Police Department; he also was on the board for the Cop Shop Reunion in Superior. He always enjoyed a friendly game of cards, bowling, spending time with his friends and family, gardening, boating and his immense passion for raising and riding horses. He was one to never sit still.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hilda Leggate, his brothers Jack and Harland, and his sisters Lucille and Francis. He is survived by his wife Marilou, his son Raymond (Marcy) of Granton, Wis., and his daughter, Linda Rook (George) of Houston, Texas; one grandson, Eric William Rook (Therese) and four granddaughters, Brianna, Caley, Amanda (Nick) and Bethany; one great grandson Charles William Rook (son of Eric and Therese), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services Friday, Aug. 5th at Country Peace Presbyterian Church, 4694 S County Road A, Superior, with a lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the church will be welcomed in memory of Walter Leggate.
