Obituary of David Leon Hines

David Leon Hines, age 79, passed away May 8, 2023, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

David was born April 11, 1944, in Los Angeles, CA to Leon Hines and Alice (Helin) Hines. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 49 years, Sheila (Mauer) Hines; two children, Allison Betts (Brian) of St. Paul, MN, and Nicole Hanson (Jason), of Livermore, CO; three grandchildren Chelsey Hines, Devyn and Colin Betts; sister Janice Rininger of McGregor, MN; and several nieces and nephews: Jeff Hetzler (Babs), Debbie Zilerverberg (Greg), Rebecca Hetzler, Lance Rininger (Kris), Vonda Rininger, Shane Rininger, Kelly Wolfe-Bellin (Rob), and Patrick Wolfe (Sara).

While David was born in Los Angeles, CA, he experienced life in many states before settling in Minnesota. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1962 and later earned a bachelor's degree in computer science at Metro State University. David was a Computer Programmer for Sperry (later becoming Unisys) for 31 years before retiring in 2006. David was proud to serve in the Marine Corps from 1965-1969 where he performed electrical work and airplane services during the Vietnam war.

David met his wife Sheila, and they married on September 21, 1973, after which two children followed, and they built a beautiful home full of simple, lovely, fun moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. David made the process of learning about and experiencing the world a good time. He continued teaching those valuable life lessons (and all that fun!) to his grandkids.

David loved the outdoors and was happiest when fishing and hunting. It would be impossible to recount his many fishing and hunting adventures, with friends and his beloved hunting dog buddies. David could find beauty in any space; a sunrise, a still lake, a gathering storm…

David was our leader, teacher, mentor, guide, comedian, and friend, and he will be deeply missed.
