Obituary of Beverly Ann Nelson

Beverly Ann Nelson, 82 of Brooklyn Park, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023. She was born in Duluth, MN, on April 29, 1941. She graduated from Duluth Central High School where she found her love of books. She then attended University of Minnesota Duluth where she earned her Master’s degree in library science and then served as a librarian at the Rogers and Hennepin County libraries. She married Robert Nelson in June of 1965 and life was good.

Beverly had a love of life that included traveling, taking road trips up the North Shore, visiting vineyards, enjoying good food and drink and playing music on both the accordion and piano. But one of her true passions was horse-racing, making many trips to attend the Breeder’s Cup and the Kentucky Derby, while also enjoying her local racetrack, Canterbury Downs.

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Vivan Travland; sister, MaryJean (Keith) Goble; and husband, Robert Nelson.

She is survived by nieces, Bethany Goble and Jennifer (Rick) Zavala; grandniece, Riley Zavala; cousins, Joan Hanson and Cathy Rivard; and many friends and family.

Graveside service will be held on June 15 at 1pm at Graceland Cemetery (105 Cemetery Road, Superior, WI, 54880). A late lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
