Obituary of Virginia Elizabeth Warner

Warner, Virginia Elizabeth Maher Age 97, of Prior Lake and formerly of St. James, MN. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 9, 2016. Virginia was born on May 30, 1919, in Herndon, KS to Charles and Leslie Maher. The family later moved to Salina, KS. She graduated from Marymount College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She enlisted in the US Army Air Force in 1943 and served during World War II. While serving she met her husband, David W. Warner, in Kingman, AZ. After a whirlwind romance they married on September 5, 1944, in Lincoln, NE. When David returned from serving overseas they began building their family in Montevideo, Minnesota, and later moved to St. James where they raised their family of nine children. Virginia worked as a Dietitian in St. James, Sleepy Eye and Mountain Lake Hospitals. She found her work fulfilling until she retired. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was an avid walker, reader, golfer, card player and a member of several bridge clubs. She made annual trips to Estes Park, CO with family to hike in RMNP, one of her favorite hikes was to Mills Lake. Her most favorite activity was spending time with her family. In 2006 she moved to the cities to be near her family. She settled in Prior Lake in 2007. Preceded in death by husband, David W. Warner; children, Barbara Madson and Timothy Warner; daughter-in-law, Rikie Warner; and many family and friends. Survived by children, David (Barb), Robert (Linda), Mark (Lin), Patrick (Peggy), Richard (Julie), Margaret (Curt) Thompson, Kathleen (Arvo) Lepasepp; son-in-law, Robert Madson, and sister-in-law Olivia Warner, grandchildren, Craig, Jeremy, Tara, Kevin, Leslie, Elizabeth, Maggie, Cassie, Christopher, Tina, David, Chris, Jon, Brady, Lindsey, Jared, Elaine, Aaron, Adam, Michael, Benn, Jon, Nathan, and Megan, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 18, at 10:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN at 1:45pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of family members .
