Obituary of Margaret Harvey Saunders
Margaret Harvey Saunders of Minnetonka passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023. Born on October 5, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Catherine Hoeppner, Marge grew up in the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly and attended Denison University, pursuing a degree in biology. After graduating from college, Marge met Norman Collier Saunders in Dayton Ohio and the two were married in 1957. They started their family in Indianapolis with the birth of their first son Jeffrey in 1959. David was born three years later in Louisville, Kentucky with Cathy arriving four years later after the couple had moved to Palatine, Illinois. Marge focused on making a home and raising the family and later put her hobbies to work by sewing skating dresses and dance line costumes. She also spent a number of years working at JB Hudson Jewelers in Minnetonka where she loved helping customers. She loved quilting, cooking and entertaining, and her favorite time of year was Christmas when she would bake at least a dozen different types of cookies. Her happiest time was spent in Door County, Wisconsin at the cottage her father built, and where she and Norm would spend six months each year for more than 20 years after they retired. Marge & Norm loved gardening, biking, enjoying Lake Michigan, and were active members of their churches in Minnetonka and Door County. Marge was also an active member in P.E.O and an enthusiastic supporter of the arts - she and Norm loved attending concerts at Orchestra Hall in MInneapolis as well as the many music series in Door County.
Margaret is survived by her brother Harvey Hoeppner, her children Jeff Saunders, David Saunders and Catherine Schultz along with each of their families. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman Saunders, her sister Pricilla Murphy, and brother Walter Hoeppner, Jr. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Diabetes Society (diabetes.org) or St. David’s Episcopal Church of Minnetonka, Minnesota (Cornerstone Endowment Fund: https://onrealm.org/stdavidsparish/-/form/give/now). A Memorial Service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Minnetonka on May 15th at 1:00 PM.
