Obituary of Carl Victor Sandstrom

Carl Victor Sandstrom, 24, of Duluth died Aug. 11, 2016 from metastatic angiosarcoma IN Saint Mary's Hospital with family at his bedside. He was born March 9, 1992, in Duluth to Paul and Jody Sandstrom. Carl graduated from Duluth East High School in 2010, and received an A.A. Degree from Lake Superior College in 2014. He worked at the Pickwick Restaurant and was enrolled at University of Wisconsin Superior this fall to finish his BS Degree in History. Carl was a consummate Minnesota Vikings fan with a passion for J. K. Rowling novels, fishing and history. He was named History Student of the Year at LSC. He had a photographic memory and loved to give detailed lessons to friends and family on all aspects of his favorite subject. Carl loved to fish; he had the rare sense of touch and feel that successful anglers have knowing when to set the hook. His biggest smiles always came while holding a prized catch. Carl was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Jeanette LaHoud; and paternal grandparents, Harvey and Pearl Sandstrom. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his parents, Paul and Jody; his brother, Samuel; aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and Daisy, the family Jack Russell Terrier who loved to walk with him. Carl's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Essentia Health Cancer Center and Saint Mary's Oncology and Palliative Care Center for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Carl and support provided for us. All people who came to know Carl loved him and he touched many. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 in Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth.
