Obituary of Curtis Ronald Lund

Curtis Ronald Lund passed away April 3, 2023, at age 88. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and faith.

A memorial service for Curtis will be held Saturday, May 13 at Andover Christian Church, with a visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Andover Christian Church is located at 16045 Nightingale St NW, Andover, MN 55304.

Curtis was born Oct. 2, 1934, on his family farm in Bird Island, Minn., to Timmon and Mildred (Sapp) Lund. He was the second of four children. Curtis graduated from Hopkins high school in 1953 and started his career as a machinist.

Curtis settled in Burnsville, Minn., in 1964, after purchasing one of the very first model homes in the suburb. He lived a simple bachelor life until he started writing letters to a woman in Washington State whom he was put in touch with through his aunt Evelyn, who rented her a room. Curtis fell in love with Janet Beardmore through the mail and proposed to her face to face after driving to Washington to meet her. Curtis and Janet wed on Jan. 16, 1965, raising four children together in their Burnsville home. He supported his family working nights as a machinist, finishing his career at Dana Corporation after 20+ years with the company.

Curtis was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his four children, Ronald Lund, Bryan (Kami) Lund, Amy (Sharon) Ewer, and Dane (Natalie) Lund, and his seven grandchildren, Ava, Autumn, Aubrey, Ella, Rylee, Curtis and Kaylee, and his siblings Florence Portermain and Warren Lund. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Janet Lund, parents Timmon and Mildred Lund, daughter-in-law Patti Brekke Lund and granddaughters Amelie and Brianna Lund.

Curtis was a man of deep faith. He was a member of Bloomington Christian Church in Bloomington, Minn., for much of his adult life, where he served as a Deacon, and was also known to be the first person there and one of the last people to leave each Sunday. Curtis loved reading the Bible and attending Bible study, and listened to his CD of hymns, which he referred to as “gospel music,” until his last day on earth.

A social man to his core, Curtis could often be found with a cup of hot black coffee in his hand ready to chat with companions at church, then later at his assisted living facility and nursing home. He loved reminiscing about “the old days,” telling dad jokes, talking about his family and his disappointment with his

Minnesota sports teams. Curtis loved a lutefisk dinner, making “sun tea” on his window sill, baking apple pies and making donuts (with extra nutmeg) and eating a good pickled egg. He was known for his kindness to everyone he met. He will be missed by all who knew him.
