Jane Fischer

Obituary of Jane Ellen Fischer

Jane Ellen Fischer (Leonard), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away

peacefully on April 10th, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Lewey Body Dementia.

Jane was born on June 22nd, 1941, to Clara (Dykstra) Leonard and Ralph Leonard in Mingo,

Iowa, where she spent her childhood and grew up with her siblings, Bob, Norman, and Mary Ann who passed away as a child.

Jane was a devoted wife to her late husband, Stan, who preceded her in death, and a loving

mother to her two sons, Doug (Karin) and Ted (Jody). Her grandchildren, Emily, Mitchel, Joey, Sean, and Matthew, were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment she spent with

them. Jane is also survived by her brother, Bob (Barb) Leonard, sister-in-law, Margaret Leonard, and many nieces and nephews.

Jane was an intelligent, kind, loving, and opinionated woman who had a passion for horses,

baking, and gardening. She loved making baked goods, especially waffle cookies and chocolate

pecan pie, for her grandchildren's birthdays. Her garden was her sanctuary, and she spent

countless hours tending to her flowers and teaching her grandchildren their names, including

purple coneflowers, bearded irises, and Queen Anne's lace. Jane also had a deep appreciation for

history and dressed up as a pioneer to volunteer at Murphy's Landing, just to indulge her

grandchildren's curiosity.

Jane's greatest gift was her ability to be present. She had a beautiful smile that could light up a

room, and she expressed her love by showing up, again and again. She never missed a game or

swim meet, and her unwavering support and encouragement will be deeply missed by her family

and friends.

Jane's passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will live on

through the countless lives she touched. Donations in her memory may be made to Groves

Learning Organization at https://www.groveslearning.org/support/donate/. The world has lost a

beautiful soul, and it will never be the same. Rest in peace, Grandma Jane.

Service will be held on May 12th at 1:00 pm at Mingo United Methodist Church, 202 West Main St, Mingo, IA 50168. Refreshments will follow the service. The internment will immediately follow at Ashton Cemetery
