Obituary of William Fredrick Sampson
William “Bill” Fredrick Sampson was the middle child of Mary Josephine “Jose Marie” (Wachter) and Archie Harold Sampson beginning his journey in Atchison, KS, until the family moved to Otter Tail, MN in 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Marie and Archie and brother-in-law Steve Kastl. He is survived by his brother Ken Sampson of Otter Tail, MN, sister Norma “Sam” Kastl of Corcoran, MN, nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews and numerous other dear friends and colleagues.
As a youngster he helped the family run their resort on Rush Lake. Bill and his family enjoyed fishing together in what little spare time they had. His passion for mathematics led him to pursue a BA (University of MN) in teaching followed by a MA (University of Oregon). Most of his teaching years were spent at Highview Junior High and Irondale High School in the Mounds View school district.
His hobbies included being a Gopher enthusiast for the University of MN, men’s hockey, basketball, and football teams. In addition to attending the games as a season ticket holder, Bill created scrap books of University of MN news articles and later for the KC Royals. KARE11 filmed him with all his University of MN memorabilia. He also spent an enormous amount of time doing genealogical research of the families that included travel to Europe to complete. The collection encompasses many photos and factual personal stories of family members from the early 1800’s through the American civil war to today.
Bill had been living with Parkinson's Disease for the past twenty years enjoying collegiate games, travel, and his many other passions. He passed to his celestial home on 4/11/23.
