Robert Monahan

Obituary of Robert Allen Monahan

Robert "Rob" Allen Monahan passed away Sunday Sept. 4, 2016, just four days short of his 49th birthday, of complications from an anoixic brain injury. He went to heaven to join his step son Luke; his aunt Penny, niece Nicole, and grandparents, whom he loved very much. Rob loved racing and was a great dirt track driver, wininng the Wissota Street Stock Championship multiple years. His love of things that "go" started at an early age. His mom, Peggy Monahan, told tales of Rob disassembling and reassembling his bikes, trikes and wagons. After graduating high school, Rob went to school for auto body and wound up working at Eggerbreght Chevrolet. There he completed specialized training in GM products, because the owner realized Rob was "born with a wrench in his hands." His knowledge of vehicles was so great he could diagnose problems over the phone. He used his knowledge of vehicles to help many people and shared his knowledge with the boys he loved, rebuilding trucks inside and out so they would have a nice ride. He also fixed cars in his garage and barely charged owners enough to pay for the lights and heat in there, sometimes he didn't charge them at all. Rob was a kind and generous man although he would not back down from a fight (he might have even started a few). He had a strong sense of right and wrong and wasn't afraid to call people out on it. Mostly Rob enjoyed life, enjoying good food, a good race, playing pranks on unsuspecting people, talking with friends down the street or having them stop by the garage where he always had beer on hand for them. His quick sense of humor and tall tales made talking to Rob fun. His devotion to Armella, the love of his life, (and his Momma) was a blessing to them both. Rob never really understood how many lives he affected. His knowledge, generosity and sense of fun will be missed by many. Rob is survived by his parents, Bill and Peggy Monahan; siblings, Todd (Jodi) Monahan, Kevin (Kelly) Monahan and Tracey (Eric) Moss; nieces, McKenzie, Kori and Kalee; nephew, Eric Moss; his wife, Armella Monahan; step sons, Daniel, Alex, Adam Larson, and Jake Hanson; Godson Alex Buzinski, son of good friend, Troy Buzinski. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave Duluth. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
